’89 Blickwinkel

Personal perspectives on the “peacefull revolution” and the political events of 1989.

‘89-Blickwinkel creates a place at Leipzig Central Station where personal perspectives on the “peacefull revolution” of 1989 are exchanged. In this context, the façade of Central Station (east side) becomes the scene of a public discourse. For the realization, Leipzig citizens and contemporary witnesses were interviewed about the events of 9th of October 1989 and the accompanying changes. The collage of video interviews was supplemented by subtle atmospheric animations and sounds and combined to create a site-specific projection. ’89-Blickwinkel is deliberately not a projection mapping in the classic sense, but a participatory video installation in public space that is intended to stimulate discourse on social and cultural issues in connection with the revolution of 1989 and Leipzig.
